Increasing Veterans' access to health care
- Everyone entering our facilities is screened. (*see below)
- Face coverings are mandatory: we encourage you to bring your own, or you can use one that we provide.
- Veterans cannot enter more than 30 minutes before your appointment.
- The only entrances open (at this time) for Veterans to enter are:
- Visitors are limited. Veterans are asked to only bring a visitor if that person is a caregiver and needs to be with the Veteran for their appointment.
- No one under 18 years of age may enter.
*The screening questions can be completed before entering the facility by texting SCREEN to 53079. After answering the questions, show the phone at the screening entrance.
In an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, we are asking all Veterans to please call the facility at (205) 554-2010, if you are experiencing symptoms to determine if it is safe to come to the facility.
The Tuscaloosa VA is now offering in-person visitation for residents twice daily, 7 days a week. The appointments must be scheduled in advance with the resident’s unit supervisor or social worker.
Various clinics providing elective services are cancelling clinics per VHA guidance. We are reaching out directly to those affected; however, we are asking that you please call ahead prior to your appointments.
Effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020, all Recreation areas will be closed to outpatients and employees until further notice.
Effective Wednesday, March 18, 2020, the KT Therapeutic Pool, and the KT Gym will be closed to outpatients and employees until further notice.
The Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center would also like you to know that we offer VA Video Connect to our Veterans. With VA Video Connect on a desktop, smartphone or tablet, Veterans can participate in video appointments that are encrypted to ensure a secure, private session. VA Video Connect is a web-based platform that allows Veterans to meet with their providers online in a “virtual medical room”. Each room is secure and HIPAA compliant allowing Veterans to receive treatment while enjoying their morning coffee in their homes or any environment of their choosing. The application can be used for any and all medical appointments when a hands-on physical examination is not required.
