About the Program

Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center offers a wide array of services in dispensing of medications.  This includes outpatient dispensing to Veterans serviced here at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical center.  Also, you as a Veteran here at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center will use the  mail order services through the VA Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP) for most outpatient pharmacy needs.  We will handle all request to CMOP for you.  The Pharmacy Department also offers inpatient pharmacy services to the various inpatient units at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center.

The Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center Pharmacy Department also offers a wide array of services for clinical pharmacy needs.  Clinical Pharmacy Specialist work directly with patients when assigned to help Veterans reach certain health goals such as better diabetes control or better blood pressure control.  Also, we offer various services to help meet inpatient Veterans’ needs.  This includes but not limited to monthly evaluation of current medication regimens, rounding with other healthcare providers, and patient education whether one on one or in group settings.  Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center Pharmacy Department also offers services to the medical centers rural health areas such as Home Based Primary Care and Selma Outreach Clinic.
The Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center Pharmacy Department for several years has supported Veteran care as well as new graduate training through our Residency Programs in Primary Care area and Mental Health. 

Services Offered

Automated Refill Line

An automated refill line is available for all Tuscaloosa VAMC patients. Please call us toll free at 1-888-651-2685.

  1. After you have dialed the number, wait for the automated attendant to answer, then press 6.
  2. Enter your entire social security number, then press the # key. Wait for an answer.
  3. Press 2, then wait for an answer.
  4. Press 1, then wait for an answer.
  5. Enter the prescription number, then press the # key. Wait for an answer.
  6. To refill additional prescriptions, press 1 and repeat the process.

*If you are using the automated refill line, all refills should be ordered at least ten days prior to when the refill is due to insure prompt processing and delivery time.

Internet Refill

Prescriptions may also be filled online using VA's My HealtheVet program. You will need a user id and password to log in. If you do not have one, you can easily get one by creating your personal profile.

Refills at Tuscaloosa VAMC Pharmacy

All veterans are encouraged to refill their prescriptions by phone or Internet. Because of our patient workload, prescriptions cannot be refilled at the main Tuscaloosa VAMC pharmacy window.

Outpatient Pharmacy:
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday:  8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday:  8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Saturday:  8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for patients scheduled in the Extended Hour Clinic Only
Inpatient Pharmacy (inpatient hospitalized veterans only):
Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Pharmacy Administration Office:
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
The pharmacy department is closed all Federal Holidays.
