TUSCALOOSA VA AND BIRMINGHAM VET CENTER TO HOLD OUTREACH EVENT IN HAMILTON
TUSCALOOSA – Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center, in partnership with the Birmingham Vet Center, will hold an outreach event for veterans in and around Hamilton, Ala., on May 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Marion Regional Medical Center, located at 1256 Military Street South.
The purpose of the event is to provide information to veterans about services available to them from the Tuscaloosa VA, Birmingham Vet Center, and other agencies.  Information about the Tuscaloosa VA will include how to enroll for VA services, primary care services, mental health services, job training, job opportunities, telemedicine, homeless programs, women’s programs, My HealtheVet, rural veteran programs, and student veteran programs.
The Birmingham Vet Center is now proud to offer counseling services to not only veterans, but also active duty military members who have served in combat or a war zone. Counseling services include individual, group, and family readjustment counseling to assist the service member’s post-deployment transition; Post-traumatic stress disorder treatment and help with other related problems that may negatively impact family, work, school and other areas of everyday life; and military sexual trauma counseling for active duty service members of both genders.
Veterans and their family members are encouraged to come and learn about the services they have earned through their military service.
“We hope by bringing information about VA health care to the Hamilton community, those who may have been interested but have not sought out information before will be able to come visit with us to learn about the services they have earned through their service to our country,” said Damon Stevenson, spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa VA. “Veterans from Hamilton and the surrounding communities have served our country with honor, and now it is our turn to serve them.”
