TUSCALOOSA VA CHANGES HOURS OF MINUTE CLINIC
Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center announced beginning October 1, the walk-in “Minute Clinic” will have new hours, now opening at 8 a.m. rather than 8:30 a.m., and closing at 3:30 p.m. rather than 4 p.m.
The change is based on feedback from Veterans who have utilized the clinic and indicated they would prefer the earlier start time. The move also sets the hours to be the same as those of the primary care clinics.
“The change in hours will not only better serve Veterans but also better utilize resources,” said Damon Stevenson, Tuscaloosa VA spokesperson.
The clinic is similar to an urgent care clinic you would see in the community. Its purpose is to treat matters that cannot wait for an appointment, but do not qualify as an emergency. Veterans are encouraged to make their regular appointments with their primary care teams as usual.
“The goal of the Minute Clinic is to see a veteran in 59 minutes or less, less than one hour, for your normal, routine sort of illnesses, things that they cannot wait for an appointment for, but aren't emergency needs either,” Stevenson said.
Tuscaloosa VA would like to remind Veterans these clinics do require appointments and ask them to contact their care teams to which they are assigned to schedule these appointments. Their care team can schedule the appointments for the team that operates the extended hours clinics. Veterans not currently enrolled in VA health care can apply for enrollment online at www.va.gov/healthbenefits/enroll, by phone at 1-877-222-VETS (8387), or in person at our medical center.
