Partners and Education
As a teaching hospital, Tuscaloosa VAMC provides a full range of services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research.
Tuscaloosa VAMCÂ is primarily affiliated with The University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa*. We offer residency training in all major medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties fromÂ The University of Alabama-Birmingham*. Associated Health Training is offered in nursing, psychology, audiology, social work, dietetics, and pharmacy.
Each year, Tuscaloosa VAMC fundsÂ more than 100 medical and approximately 12 dental resident slots. Training is providedÂ for approximately 400 students in these slots and toÂ more than 400 nursing and associated health trainees.
Veterans Service Organizations
Tuscaloosa VAMCÂ maintains a good working relationship with all of our Veteran Service Organization (VSO) partners. We regularly brief our VSO representatives on changes impacting Veterans' health care.
A Veterans Advisory Council (VAC) has been established which includes stakeholders from a number of Veteran groups. The VAC meets quarterly.
US Department of Defense
As a participant in the US Department of Defense TRICARE Program*, Tuscaloosa VAMCÂ serves as the main referral source for women's health and orthopedic specialty appointments.
