Veterans and their family members often send numerous letters of praise and gratitude to the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center.  These letters serve as a true testament to the compassionate care provided daily by the medical center's hard working staff to our nation's heroes.  Here are a few letters we would like to share.

To the Director of the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center, a couple of weeks ago I called the Mental Health Outpatient Clinic and spoke with Ms. Katrina Buffer. Now I know I was a little upset on the phone with her, but because of her calm attitude and all the help she provided, I was immeditatly pleased with all her help. She over extended herself and went above and beyond to provide care for me. I must say she is one of the best TVAMC employees I have ever encountered. Please make sure she is recognized for her hard work and great customer service.

To Whom It may concern, This letter is in honor of three employees. They ‘re Ms. Angela Edward my social worker, Mrs. Kennedy Taylor and Mr. Scott Patterson; both Nursing assistants. If it’s in their power they would help you. They go far and above the call of duty. I think they should be honored and appreciated. And you should do the same. This is when I was in the MHRRTP Program at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center.

Dear Sir, I want to thank you for the positive changes you have made at the VA. Change starts at the top. In the past, I have seen several doctors there, of them Dr. Motely and Dr. McKnight are most superb. Dr. McKnight could teach some doctors how to think “Out of the box”. Not all patients are alike. I do not know if Common Service can be taught or not, but some doctors lack it. Dr. McKnight is blessed with it. The young lady, I’m not sure her name, but she works in X-ray, she does the CT’s, she is far above average. She explains what she is doing and shows her concerns for Veterans. Maybe she should be a supervisor, but she would be a loss to patients. All the lab staff is good. Tim is very good.

Dear Mr. Grissom,
With all the bad things, you hear about the Veterans Administration’s medical facilities, l thought you might like to know some people are well pleased with Tuscaloosa VA Medical center. My husband has been going to your center since 2000. We have been extremely satisfied with Tuscaloosa VA. I thought you also might like to know how pleased we are with Tracy Eatman. Good employees make such a difference.

Dear Mr. Merkle,
I have been a patient at Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center for the past seventeen years. Dr. Neelamegan has been my doctor since he came back to Tuscaloosa. He is very thorough, pleasant and thoughtful Doctor. He does more than just renew your prescriptions for medication, you feel like you have had a good examination after you have seen him. I also want to give recognition to Tracy Eatman CRT, Respiratory Therapist, and Dr.Whittaker at the Optometry clinic. They too are very thorough, knowledgeable and pleasant. The way I am treated by these three people make you feel like being a veteran is something to be proud of. I am 81 years old and it means a lot to have people that really want to help you. I love Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center, keep up the good work and the good providers especially the ones I have mentioned.

To TVAMC,
I cannot explain how great the VA is for me. I am deeply grateful to ALL of those folks working at the VA. I have been treated like a prince each and every time that I have been seen by various professionals. TVAMC sets an excellent example of how all VA facilities should operate for our Veterans.

Mr. Berry,
I am writing to tell you about the excellent work Mr. Jeff Black and his team at Social Services has extended to one of my dear friends. My friend’s health has been declining and she has been paying out of pocket for services to include in-home care. She recently expressed concern to me that her savings will run out and she would be unable to continue to pay for her care. I knew there had to be something that could be done to help one of our nation’s greatest treasures and I was not disappointed. I reached Mr. Black and explained the situation to him. I mentioned that it was difficult for her to hear over the phone with her hearing aid and inquired whether someone could go visit her to help her understand what the VA could offer her. It has been about two weeks since we've spoken and a wonderful Social Worker has personally visited with her in her home in Marion, AL. I cannot express how grateful I am that your team went above and beyond to care for one of our veterans. I know that it has meant so much to my friend that her VA genuinely cares for her and is willing to do whatever it takes to help her. I want you and your team to know that your actions change the lives of veterans like her every day and that it does not go unnoticed. You are making a positive difference and it matters. I am so proud of all of your efforts and sincerely appreciate everything everyone has done to help my friend. Thank you so much.
