Employee Appreciation
Thank You letters
Veterans and their family members often send numerous letters of praise and gratitude to the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. These letters serve as a true testament to the compassionate care provided daily by the medical center's hard working staff to our nation's heroes. Here are a few letters we would like to share.
To the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center Director,
I am a disabled veteran writing to you to bring attention to special staff members and programs at your medical center. First of all, Dr. Daniel Potts the Neurologist at the specialty clinic. My path to understanding and healing the pain I have to deal with started with Dr. Potts. The empathy he continues to show towards me eases my mind and I can't thank him enough for his support.
The next special consideration goes to Functional Restoration Pain Program. When I walked in the first day, NP Sharon Sloup sat me down and explained what the program is about and the results she has had since the program started. After being in program for several months, the results have been above anything I could have expected. I have to come to look at Sharon as the face of your program and everything she promised me on the first day had come true with hard work and patience. Thank you Dr.Potts and Sharon so much.

To the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center Director,
Over the last decade, there has been so much negative news written about the state of Veterans medical care around the U.S.. As a veteran, I wanted to commend you on a bright start shining in the state of Alabama. The Veterans Medical Center located in Tuscaloosa is a model of excellence for all others to copy. The staff in my opinion is what makes the facility so good. Since I walked in the front door last year, my life changed forever and I can't begin to thank everyone enough.
The best example I can give is a simple gesture shown by your staff members. Trying to maneuver around the medical center, its easy to get lost. I realized early on all I have to do is stand still and look lost. The next staff member that passes by will always stop and ask if they can help and then they will personally escort me to my next appointment with a thank you for a kind gesture. The staff shows a professionalism and an attitude that puts me at ease. I am receiving the best care in my opinion and I wanted to just say thank you to everyone.
I wanted to list everyone that I have come in contact and if I forget anyone just know it wasn't for lack of trying.

To the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center Director, Upon entering the Tuscaloosa VA residential program on March 6, 2018. I arrived knowing exactly what I was coming for and I knew what I expected to get from coming to the program. My case manager asked me on my initial intake what did I want to get from the program. So I told her my reasons for coming, they were to get structure in my life because I didn't think I would learn anything textbook. About a week into the program I witness an exchange between another person in the program and a staff member. The way this person talked to the staff and the level of his voice was the beginning of me realizing that I was going to get far more than I could ever dream or imagine. I saw me in him. I immediately I realized that I had to change my behavior or I would never change. I want to acknowledge staff members that have been more than instrumental in my process. Their level of professionalism mixed with some compassion left me in awe. If I didn't have my family waiting to see me and my growth I would stay RIGHT here where I could allow these men and women who give so freely of themselves to come here and help me get my life together. From the bottom of my heart with all sincerity and truth I list the names of those who had something to do with who I believe I've become and who will continue to grow into. The names are not in any specific order with the exception of me listing my favorite two nurses first. Fran Lesley, Lillian Varnado, Dr. Anett-ea Rehmert PhD, Candy Beasley, Denita Veal, Michelle Palmore, Gregg Voughn, Ornna Taylor, Sidney Loggins, Yolonda Johnson, Tashieta Jurigeu and finally but not least Essie Parker... If l had 1,000 tongues I couldn't thank you all enough. I may not remember you all in ten years but I'll carry in my spirit the contribution you gave me and no cost to say that you believed in me ... Thank you...
